Autodesk® Alias® Plugin to export Surfaces, Shells, Curves, Layers, and Shaders to a Blender® file.
Blender is an open source program, with a wide variety of functionalities, including real time visualization capability.
The plug-in allows a fast and convenient method to save surface geometry and Curves, including layer information and shaders.
Blender needs to be installed on the machine and the path to the Blender executable should be included in the PATH variable.

BugFix: File not saved if objects/layers/shaders have very long names
This step by step video tutorial shows how to install and configure the plugin.

I have used this plug in in the past but it doesn't seem to work for Alias surface 2024
The new version of the plugin will be released when Alias 2024.1 will be released.
Really helpful!!!
Very good tool that no doubt is being used accross the automotive industry.
With the latest update of Blender as Rajeev has said "There has been some breaking changes from the Blender 3.4.0.0 install from Microsoft Store. It no longer exposes blender.exe, instead blender-laucher.exe."
I resolved this by installing from the Microsoft Store Blender 2.93 LTS as it is the latest version to direct to blender.exe (3.3 LTS exposes blender-laucher.exe)
Hello Rajiv,
Many thanks for this! we're really excited to try this.
Unfortunately for us, it still is exporting 0 byte files. Even after duly following the handlebar3D video.
We are using Alias Concept 2022 Update 1 and Blender 3.2
Any idea what may be causing this
Thanks again!!
Can you please type the following in a command prompt where blender Please email me the output.
Sorry, I did not understand what you are saying. Could you please explain it again?
I tried so many times exporting from alias to blender with many models but all the files keeps on saying ) bytes. Can anyone please help
Amazing work, thank you!!
That said, it is missing the most important for my workflow:
- keeping groups and subgroups when exporting
- option to merge objects in subgroup
I made a Python script for Blender to merge objects in subgroups, but this only works when the groups and subgroups are kept on the export. Let me know if I could help in any way
Thank you for your kind words. I will look into implementing your feature request. As of now Alias Layer gets tranlated to Blender Collections. i.e. objects in a layer will be translated as objects in a collection. Do you mean Alias Groups to Blender parenting method? I don't think they are similar. Please feel free to email me with the details.
Hi and thank you for your answer! Yes, I'm talking about Alias groups being translated into subgroups to Blender parenting method using "empty" nodes. When you export an FBX from Alias with tesselation activated and import it in Blender, this is already working. But it doesn't merge/stitch objects and that's a very slow and painful process to in Blender
Hello Rajeev,
I have read your reply for the same issue to Karl, and I have reinstalled the blender from microsoft store and starte it with cmd but still i am getting the message that the file is unsupported, I am using Alias 2023.0. Kindly assist me with this issue
Thank you
Hi Reema, There has been some breaking changes from the Blender 3.4.0.0 install from Microsoft Store. It no longer exposes blender.exe, instead blender-laucher.exe. The plugin needs to find blender.exe to complete the process. Please install Blender using the installer from blender.org and add the path manually to the folder. Please watch https://youtu.be/hfLRSfzS-CY to see the complete installation process.
This plugin has quickly become an essential tool in our studio, streamlines & simplifies the transfer process.
Hello Rajeev,
This plug-in is not supported for the Autodesk Alias AutoStudio 2023.0 version. Any update or suggestion .Thanks
The plugin is already certified for Alias 2023. Please ensure the pre-requisites are met and the latest version of the plugin is installed. If the plugin is still not working, please email me the details of the problem.
The exported Blender file is empty ( 0 Byte in file size) - I use Alias 22 - Any ideas why?
Hi Robert, Please read the reply to the previous question from Karl.
Dear all,
Thank you giving us the chance to get an export from alias to blender.
Unfortunately, I face a problem : while I am importing the file I exported through the plug-in, Blender does not open it. It clearly says :
"File is not supported in file (...)"
Can you help me regarding this problem?
And my second question is : can we export SUBD & recover the polygonal construction in blender through the export?
Thank you in advance for your support.
I stay at your disposal for any further questions,
Best regards,
Hi, 1, Please read the pre-requites for the plugin to work correctly in the Installation/Uninstallation section. "Please note that the blender executable directory should be added to the environment variable PATH. If you are using Blender from Microsoft Store, it should already be set. If in doubt, try to run blender from a command prompt." The plugin relies on Blender being installed on the same machine. Since Blender can be installed/run in many different ways, it is currently not possible to ascertain the location of Blender install automatically. 2, As of current version of Alias, the subD functionalities are not exposed by the API. Some of the new SubD functionality (v 2023 ..with regards to creases) are specific to Alias and cannot be transffered to other systems. In future, if and when the functionality is exposed we will try to implement those. Hope it helps.
This should really be a standard tool set included with Autodesk Alias
Awesome plugin and thank you for sharing with all of us!
Suggestion- with the option of saving mesh data, Symmetry and curves. It would be nice to have option to export merge surfaces by shader.
An amazing tool which cuts hours off the workflow, absolutely recommend.
A small note, if your Alias layers have a comma in the name the tool will not work. In the current version (2.6.2), the Blender file comes out empty in this case. Just remove the commas and you're good to go.
Hello Bruno, Thanks for reporting the bug. The bug has been resolved in the new version. Please download the latest version.( v 2.6.3)
Thank you Rajeev what a fantastic tool as a professional deisgner you have cut countless minutes off the time it takes to prep a model for export to Blender from Alias secodn to that the mesh prep will make a world of difference when applying textures. Great product and a great support when i had install issues.
What a wonderful addition to my workflow-
Big Thanks from me as well!
Edit: After testing it for a while now, I realized that there is a few things still missing, and they would make it much more usable.
Support of AliasMeshes- Alias MeshData doesnt seem to be exported
Export of Symmetry as an option
Export Curves as an option
besides that it is a great help and I really love it !
Very useful and straight foreward way to get your Alias-Data as meshes into Blender.
Big Thanks to the developer for sharing this tool in the spirit of Blender - for free!
